Our guide to Slate Monoliths and Holloliths

Why choose a slate water feature for your garden?

Slate monoliths and holloliths are all totally unique which means you will never find two the same.

We use a quarry based in North Wales so you are guaranteed a quality product and at the same time you are supporting a British based manufacturing company. All Welsh Slate Monoliths are specially hand selected for the best visual characteristics and are ones which will make an impressive overall water feature.

Slate is a natural product and designed to last, unlike some of the cheaper poly resin fountains which may last for a few years and then show signs of wearing. Slate water features should last for years and years and actually improve with age as they become part of the environment and feel the effects of the elements.

If you have any special requirements we are happy to look into this for you. Email your requirements to info@ukwaterfeatures.com or call our sales line on 01226 388889.

What are the colour options?

We have a choice of three colours from the quarry we currently use- Green Striped, Blue and Plum. Blue and Plum are the most popular but the Green Striped has a quite unique appeal.

From placing an order how long is delivery of my slate water feature and what do I need when it arrives?

Orders are processed daily and we aim to get your slate water feature picked and delivered within 3-5 working days. Delivery is free to any UK mainland address. If you live in the Scottish Highlands, Channel Islands or in Ireland please call for a price as we may have to check the cost of haulage.

Due to the size and weight of slate features they are all strapped and delivered on a pallet. The delivery is to the kerbside and you then need to have a plan in place to get the slate from there to its final position in the garden. Small monoliths and holloliths (3ft) can be man handled into place but still bear in mind that they can weigh around 250KG so you still may need a few strong arms!

On the larger slate items we recommend that they are lifted into place either using a manual hoist or mini digger. If your installing the water feature as part of a garden project on-site builders should be able to assist.

Installing your Slate monolith or hollolith

The smaller monoliths and holloliths are suitable to mounted onto a pre-built pebble pool. We suggest a 90cm galvanised grid and pool for the 3ft and the 112cm Pebble Pool plus 100cm square grid for the 4ft.

Once you get above these sizes the weight increases and currently there are no off the shelf pebble pool which will safely support this weight. The easy solution is to build your own pool using bricks or blocks with cross sectional supports and using a pond liner to line this. You can then use one of our galvanised grids which will sit on top of the custom built pool and spread the weight of the water feature once in place.

All our monoliths and holloliths are pre-drilled ready to have a pipe inserted up the inside and connected to the pump at the bottom.
